A natural ecosystem is a place of interaction between the different biological populations that share the ecological niche. Let's see how the Iberian ibex and microorganisms can interrelate in La Pedriza.
As we told you a few days ago, the protist sampling campaigns started in spring 2015, but the adventure of Microepics in La Pedriza actually began two years earlier, on a hot September day in which we collected the first dry sediments of some granitic pits at 1250 m altitude.
The Madri+d Science Week is an event for the general public, of all ages, that has been held annually for the last 15 years to show the scientific culture of the Community of Madrid to its citizens. Microepics did not want to miss the opportunity of participating in this event and bringing protists closer to society.
Microepics began its microscopic quest observing the water retained in the natural granite pits (pilas or pilancones) in la Pedriza. These natural basins in the rock are a geological peculiarity of the National Park area.
